The School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (CCE) at Queen’s University Belfast, is seeking a Research Fellow to assist in the development of materials and processes for ultrasensitive nitrogen sensors for real-time monitoring of water quality for a collaborative project with Dublin City (ROI) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA).
This project is supported by National Science Foundation (NSF), Department for Economy (DfE) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) via the US-Ireland R&D partnership programme and the successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and delivery of the research activity within this project so that the overall research objectives of the project are met.
The project will involve synthesis and characterisation of polymer or composite sorbents, evaluation of nitrogen species binding selectivity using a variety of analytical methods and the design of a sensing platform for implementation of the produced materials to the sensing of nitrogen species in water.
This is an exciting time to join Queen’s and be part of a multidisciplinary research team and assist in making fundamental research discoveries and translating them into real solutions for global challenges.
The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter application should clearly demonstrate you have:
A degree in Chemistry.
A PhD or about to obtain in materials, analytical chemistry or sensors, or a closely related area.
Have at least 3 years’ relevant research experience to include:
  - Demonstrable experience in the synthesis and characterisation of porous polymers or composite sorbents.
  - Demonstrable skills in analytical and/or environmental chemistry.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
