Profile

The Assistant or Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs should have an informed vision of what skills, expertise and knowledge will be needed by the osteopathic physician of the future and the curriculum needed to provide these. This person will need exceptional interpersonal skills to successfully work with a variety of professionals in growing, leading, and improving the clinical experiences for third- and fourth-year medical students. Responsible for the clinical education curriculum in collaboration with other senior administrative leaders, such as the Assistant Dean of GME and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work alongside other senior leaders in the development of curricular design, analysis and improvement for clinical education.
Oversee the quality and improvement of the clinical educational programs to assure their effectiveness.
Focus on growing clinical clerkship opportunities for ICOM students.
Collaborate to develop and monitor faculty development for clinical preceptors.
Assist students in developing strategies for successful GME placement through student education and faculty advising.
Provide leadership for the clinical coordinators and directors.
Communicate with ICOM clinical hubs on a variety of issues, including curriculum development issues, course delivery, exam policies, faculty development, and rotation schedules.
Develop additional clinical hubs in alignment with ICOM's mission.
Follow, accomplish and report on Strategic Planning goals.
Requirements
Possess a doctoral degree in a health professional education related field such as DO or MD. Preference will be given to DOs with clinical experience and significant involvement with clinical education.
Prefer familiarity with AOA COCA requirements.
Extensive professional experience in leadership roles.
Strong knowledge base in medical education curriculum development
A team player who values collaboration, mutual support and team cohesion.
Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to contribute to faculty growth and development
Strong oral and written communication skills
Experience with medical school accreditation and reporting helpful
Budget management experience
Able to work independently, work weekends, and travel monthly
