DCLCP Assistant Manager, East Coast, Mansfield Center DCLCP
The
Mansfield Center’s Defense Critical Language and Culture Program (DCLCP)
is one of the top language training centers in the nation. DCLCP provides intensive language and culture training for members of the U.S. military and other government agencies through a congressionally funded grant through the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO). The position may be located at Ft. Liberty, NC, or other assigned location dependent upon mission requirements or as determined by the Director of DCLCP.
The
DCLCP Assistant Manager, East Coast
will lead on-site collaboration with Defense Critical Language and Culture Program (DCLCP) military partners at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, and potential other assigned locations to support intensive language, regional expertise, and culture (LREC) training. This position liaises with on-site military partners for DCLCP programmatic areas, including scheduling, administrative and personnel support, customer responsiveness, logistical support, and maintaining and expanding LREC support with current and new military partners. In coordination with DCLCP Site Leads, this position will also support DCLCP faculty in all administrative and academic areas.
The position is located at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, or another location, dependent upon mission requirements, at the request of our customers, or as determined by the Director of DCLCP. Due to multiple training sites, some travel may be required. The Assistant Manager must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
Administrative
Lead on-site collaboration with military partners.
Coordinate administrative and logistic efforts to integrate and support military partner organizational requirements at Fort Liberty with the procedures of DCLCP and UM.
Analyze problems, identify solutions, and take action to solve problems in support of DCLCP missions.
Participate in LREC leadership meetings and represents DCLCP with military partners.
Organize orientation and onboarding of new faculty with the DCLCP Manager of Academic Programs (MAP) and Site Leads.
Communicate military partners’ regulations and protocols, including basic security measures, to DCLCP faculty and stay updated on any regulation changes.
Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
Coordinate annual, sick, and other time-off requests with the Site Leads.
Coordinate for substitute teaching as needed.
Work closely with MAP to ensure instructors are informed of and comply with UM's internal administrative policies.
Troubleshoot administrative and interpersonal issues, suggesting better problem-solving approaches to ensure superlative instruction and harmonious teamwork.
Communicate with MAP regarding each language department's administrative issues, and provide MAP with recommendations in support of DCLCP's mission.
Propose solutions and take initiative to solve complex problems related to administrative programs.
As needed, instruct in one of DCLCP’s target languages and cultures.
Execute additional tasks assigned by the Manager of Academic Programs (MAP).
Academic Support
Under the supervision and direction of the DCLCP Manager for Academic Programs (MAP), ensure academic needs are met as defined by both military partners and DCLCP.
Support and assist DCLCP Site Leads with their curriculum and instruction.
Under the supervision and direction of the MAP, support DCLCP Site Leads and ensure consistency and customer responsiveness in developing DCLCP syllabi and other course materials consistent with appropriate pedagogical and linguistic standards.
In collaboration with Site Leads, support faculty, and their academic projects to foster a collaborative and productive work environment and achieve organizational goals.
Support the Site Leads in maintaining accurate records of student attendance and performance and maintain other records and data according to UM program needs or accreditation requirements.
Work closely with the Site Leads and suggest Professional Development (PD) programming to MAP. Training includes OPI certification, ACTFL workshops, linguistic pedagogy, communicative methodologies, and project- and task-based approaches.
Collect and compile data for LTC and DoD reports with MAP and Assistant MAP (AMAP); work jointly with AMAP for various academic and organizational projects for DCLCP.
Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Manager of Academic Programs (MAP).

Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field.
Strong skills and ability to understand DCLCP's mission and vision while interacting with military partners and channeling day-to-day activities toward the organization's common goals.
Experience with and ability to work in a culturally diverse environment; ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Skills and ability to manage and resolve conflict.
Skills and ability to work in unpredictable situations, be adaptable and comfortable with a fast-paced working environment.
Ability to build a cohesive and inclusive team by leveraging the strengths of individual faculty from diverse backgrounds.
Experience in intensive language learning and instruction and in curriculum development for language materials.
Knowledge of current teaching methodologies and practices in the classroom and experience utilizing advanced classroom technologies.
Ability to work productively within a team, establish solid professional working relationships with military partners and DCLCP colleagues, and work well independently.
Demonstrate professionalism, initiative, judgment, independent thought and action, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills to represent the program in written and verbal exchanges.
Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; business English, spelling, grammar, composition, proofreading, and ability to edit materials.
Demonstrate skill in operating computers and related word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, as well as the ability to update web content (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) with the ability to learn new software.
Individuals must be able to pass a Criminal Background Investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in a related field.
Experience in intensive language instruction, particularly in a military or government setting.
Ability to teach in at least one critical language (Arabic, Persian-Farsi, Chinese, Korean, Indonesian, Russian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Tagalog).
Experience in intensive language instruction, particularly in a military or government setting.
Experience with the U.S. military, particularly Specials Operations Forces (SOF).
Experience as an OPI Tester and/or exam developer.
