Teaching, Research, and Mentoring (TRM) In-Residence Fellowship Program
The TRM Fellowship Program embodies our effort to promote a community of learning that is based on high-impact teaching practices, cross-disciplinary inquiry, exceptional student mentoring, and a commitment to the teacher-scholar model.
Working collaboratively with each other, faculty and staff from the Davidson Honors College, and other stakeholders across **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. campus, TRM Postdoc will be responsible for:
Teaching two honors courses per year in their area(s) of expertise, perhaps in collaboration with relevant departments on the UM campus. TRM Postdocs are encouraged to teach courses that complement existing departmental specialties and/or courses that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries.
Teaching two existing interdisciplinary honors college courses per year (Ways of Knowing and Art of Inquiry).
Teaching one class in the Knowles Hall Living and Learning Community (LLC) classroom, holding four office hours in Knowles Hall each week during the academic year, and leading two academic enrichment events for the honors LLC each semester.
Actively pursuing research and/or creative scholarship in their area(s) of expertise.
Engaging students in research or creative scholarship projects that stem from the Postdoc's research agenda.
Mentoring Davidson Honors College students with the goal of promoting each student's academic, professional, and personal development.
The Postdoc will be required to live in-residence in Knowles Hall where the Honors Living Learning Community is located and to collaborate and communicate with UM Housing staff and be an active leader and mentor in the residential community. In turn, the postdoc will receive, employer paid housing, a furnished two-bedroom apartment in the residence hall, which is being newly refurbished in summer, 2023.
The Postdoc will have a dedicated workspace in the DHC Building, serve on scholarship and selection committees, participate in various DHC events, and generally contribute to our vibrant learning community. The TRM Postdoc will also have the opportunity to engage the broader UM campus through research presentations, workshops, membership in campus organizations, and collaboration with faculty.
The TRM Postdoc will show initiative and leadership in engaging students from diverse backgrounds with varied academic and professional interests. They will also need to work extremely well in a collaborative setting, and have a deep appreciation for the spirit of honors education, which embraces the diversity of thought that comes from exposure to a wide range of disciplines.

Position Details
Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12-month Letter of Appointment renewable for a second year, contingent on funding and performance. This appointment is non-renewable after the second year. The position comes with a competitive package including salary, benefits, on-campus housing, professional development opportunities, and funding to support several undergraduate research assistantships per year.
Salary for this position is $40,000-$45,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have received a terminal degree (PhD preferred, but not required) within five years of the hiring date.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in collaborative setting.
Teaching skills that support a high-impact learning environment and cross-disciplinary inquiry for undergraduate honors students.
Demonstrated ability to connect with and mentor a diverse group of students from a variety of majors.
High quality research and/or creative scholarship in an established or emerging field.
Exemplary record of scholarship, along with demonstrated achievement in classroom instruction, and mentoring of undergraduate students.
Experience in or appreciation for honors education.
Preferred Qualifications
Background in humanities or social sciences or demonstrated experience teaching in these areas.
Published, peer-reviewed research/creative scholarship.
Experience teaching undergraduate students in an experiential, online, hybrid, cross-disciplinary, or team setting.
Successful mentoring and advising students toward academic, professional, and personal development.
Relevant, cross-disciplinary research agendas and teaching experience that emphasizes high-impact practices such as experiential learning, innovative use of technology in the classroom, collaborative problem-solving, and extensive faculty-student engagement.
