Alumni Engagement Officer (Advancement)
Summary Description:
St. Benedict’s Preparatory School ( ****) is seeking a full-time alumni engagement officer. The successful candidate will: manage a portfolio of prospects; develop innovative strategies to acquire and retain donors, in particular younger alumni; produce event and other engagement opportunities; and work collaboratively with the advancement team.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and implements donor strategies for a portfolio of up to 150 assigned prospects.
Designs a personalized, concierge-like experience for low- and mid-level donors, helping to retain, reactivate, and grow gifts while also identifying donors with the ability and affinity to make larger gifts.
Focuses on strategies to acquire new donors who have traditionally not made annual gifts.
Leverages technology, social media, phone, and face-to face encounters to engage constituents.
In concert with the director of special events, leads efforts to engage alumni through in-person and virtual (if necessary) local and regional alumni events.
In concert with the director of annual giving, spearheads Donor Appreciation Day, assists with telemarketing, the Senior Class Gift campaign, and assists with annual Giving Day.
Ensures and maintains proper prospect documentation using Raiser’s Edge, the School’s donor database/CRM.
Collaborates with internal units including faculty, college placement, student counseling, athletics, and the business office.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Three to five years of experience in fundraising or relevant field (such as sales).
Other Considerations:
Successful candidates must demonstrate skills and expertise in planning and decision making, communication, human relations, salesmanship, persistence and patience. A high degree of initiative is expected along with strong organizational skills and the ability to identify and construct solutions. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously (working both independently and as a member of a team) are required. Knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge software is a plus. Candidates should possess a commitment to the ideals of Benedictine education. A personal vehicle is required, as well as a willingness to travel and work outside of normal business hours. All candidates must complete an application for employment and be willing to submit to a background check.

St. Benedict's Preparatory School was founded by the Benedictine Monks in 1868 and is one of the oldest and most successful urban schools in the country. Over its 150-year history, the Catholic school has educated a rich variety of successive immigrant groups and the local community in and around Greater Newark. It now educates nearly 1,000 students, primarily of African-American and Latino heritage, in grades K through 12. Eighty-seven percent of its graduates earn a college degree or are presently enrolled.
