Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director of Secondary Education and Principals, Mentor will provide direct classroom support as needed and/or as set up with an entry plan. Mentors will facilitate teacher and new teacher collaboration learning. Specifically work with new teacher days at the start of the academic year, ongoing induction learning throughout the year and mentor learning throughout the year with teachers. In addition they will facilitate additional learning opportunities for mentor teachers and new teachers which may occur outside teacher contract time, including mornings, evenings, and before and after the school year starts/ends.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers secondary school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Creates a welcoming and engaging learning environment for all students and teachers.
Assesses and coordinates supports needed for new teachers.
Helps establish triad teams to support incoming teachers that will include the incoming teacher, mentor teachers, Instructional Coaches, and a building level administrator.
Collaborates with content level curriculum teams.
Collaborates closely with district and building level administration.
Engages in personal learning and implementation of student centered coaching practices, with additional professional learning opportunities and training provided.
Supports the relationship between the new teacher and instructional coach.
Networks with other districts throughout the state to continue to improve on our mentoring program.
Collaborates with multiple departments within our system to ensure consistent implementation of services and understand how all departments work together:

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field applicable to elementary education
License issued by Iowa BoEE for elementary teaching
At least three years of successful teaching experience
At least one year in a teaching position in Fort Dodge Community School District
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy enabling differentiation
Knowledge of secondary school curriculum and concepts.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network systems, technology devices and software applications.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, coworkers and the greater community.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
