Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Nursing and Midwifery programmes in the fields of adult, child and mental health nursing and in midwifery have been designed with our students’ career and the future needs of the workforce in mind. The School works in partnership with local NHS trusts to drive forward clinical research and support students in their learning to become the best nurses and midwives they can be. InterCity Place is the first-class new home for our healthcare teaching and research providing students with skills to meet the needs of 21st century careers. The School offers a unique interdisciplinary learning environment, where students from the largest breadth of healthcare disciplines in the South West can benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, maximising their potential, developing core skills, and preparing them to embark on exciting and rewarding careers. The School offers further support for student career and professional development in the areas of healthcare, surgical care practice, emergency care and general practice nursing. An interdisciplinary approach to research covers sustainability, the evolution of services, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy. We are looking to appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced Midwife to join the well-established team of midwifery lecturers in the South West of England. You will contribute to teaching excellence related to midwifery care and contribute to the academic and clinical development of Midwifery at the University. This will include the development and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare programmes. You will also be encouraged to contribute to research within the School and join an appropriate research group. We offer 3 programmes delivered as both campus based and blended learning options. We offer MSc, BSc and a shortened MSc for registered nurses who wish to become midwives. Research in the School was rated highly in the REF2021 and continues to grow. The University of Plymouth Clinical Schools initiative is an exciting development, through which applied nursing and midwifery research focuses on topics that are timely and relevant to advancing the quality of care. You should possess appropriate professional qualifications, registration as a midwife with the NMC is essential, relevant post registration experience as a midwife, a Degree in health or a related subject, relevant postgraduate qualifications and a teaching qualification (or be willing to work to achieve this).
