Description:
Our roots go back over 150 years, but it is our contemporary relevance that gives us our energy and direction. Our research is committed to addressing the multidisciplinary challenges of today and tomorrow and informs an educational experience that places emphasis on practical, real-world experiential learning. The University seeks to advance knowledge and transform lives through excellence in teaching and learning and world-class research, sustained international impact, a stimulating student experience, and as a civic university focused on supporting our local community and businesses. The University has recently ranked amongst the top 25 Institutions in the Times Higher Education Rankings and is home to over 18,000 students, and a further 6,000 plus who are studying for a Plymouth degree at partner institutions in the UK and around the world. The University is seeking to appoint a Head for the School of Nursing and Midwifery to provide bold and strategic leadership to the School. Reporting to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health, the Head of School role is responsible for formulating and operationalising academic strategy, ensuring appropriate plans and resources are in place for their delivery. The Faculty of Health represents 42% of the University’s activities and it is host to a tremendously diverse range of health and social care professional education programmes. At any one time, 4,500 professionals are typically in training across 60 programmes in six schools. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a long-established record of delivering high quality learning, teaching and research, with an extensive portfolio of undergraduate nursing programmes including Adult, Mental Health, and Child at BSc and MSc levels. These are delivered over three sites in Truro, Plymouth and Exeter and it collaborates closely and strategically with NHS partners and Further Education throughout the peninsula. The successful candidate will be an established leader in their field. They will have considerable academic and personal credibility in a relevant discipline, as well as a commitment to working in partnership with staff and students across the School, the Faculty, and more widely. The appointee will bring inspiring leadership and strong management experience and an ability to engage staff, peers and students as they work collaboratively to deliver results. Candidates should have a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges amidst the context of rapid change within the University and HE sector as a whole. An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver to assist the Search Committee in the discharge of their duties; both to identify the widest possible field of candidates and to assist in the assessment of candidates against the requirements of the role. Applications should consist of a covering letter explaining motivation, suitability and qualifications for the position and a full curriculum vitae.
