Position Summary: **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. seeks a teacher of humanities to begin in June of 2022. A humanities department teacher reports to the Chief Programs Officer and collaborates with the Dean of Humanities on day-to-day matters. A humanities department teacher teaches four classes with no more than two unique preps per eight-week quarter in a variety of grade-levels. In developing these classes, the teacher is required to utilize a Understanding by Design (UbD) approach in the creation of units, weekly modules, and daily lesson plans. A successful humanities teacher adheres to the interdisciplinary vision of the department with a focus on mastery learning. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include: Teaching four Humanities courses, one each academic quarter Participating in professional development to promote self-growth, build relationships and remain current with programs, policies, and practices that meet the needs of students. Participating in academic planning meetings, academic department meetings and Team/Faculty meetings. Being available to assist during study hall twice a week in the evenings To fulfill other customary duties of faculty at the school: residence house supervision coaching/sports supervision dining hall supervision weekend duties advisor to students participation in all other co-curricular programs of the school, including chapels and assemblies PSL License Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or the Chief Programs Officer Supporting the School and its leadership Conditions: Available now through June 30, 2023. Contracts are issued on a yearly basis. The humanities teacher reports to the Chief Programs Officer and has at least one performance evaluation during the course of the school year completed by the Dean of Humanities and the Chief Programs Officer. Qualifications and Skills Needed Bachelor's degree in English, History or related field, a teaching certificate or equivalent professional experience which would translate to successful classroom teaching. Experience teaching contemporary authors and topics is preferred but not required. Experience teaching 12th grade and post-graduate students is preferred but not required. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are required. Collaborates well with colleagues of diverse backgrounds on pedagogical approaches, curricular alignment, and instructional strategies. Promotes the use of multiple methods in solving problems, identifying more efficient strategies, and generalizing principles to a broad variety of applications. Encourages collaborative teamwork in the classroom, teaching students to communicate effectively and thoughtfully, justify their reasoning, and to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems. Invests in the life of the School by participating in the advisory program, social and emotional learning, weekly department meetings, and team meetings.
