Job Description:
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., a two-campus institution serving a rural and diverse 12-county area in the Chesapeake Bay region of Virginia, seeks applicants for a faculty-ranked, on-campus teaching position in biology (F0030) who possess graduate course work in human biology and/or anatomy and physiology. This is a nine-month position. Appointment begins August 16, 2022. Excellent benefits package. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
The College desires candidates with a commitment to the community college mission and experience working with a diverse student population, including adult learners, dual enrollment students, and at-risk students. The successful candidate will be committed to academic excellence, continuous improvement, and willingness to create and participate in a collegial environment of civility, collaboration and open communication. The college strives for a faculty of content experts who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative strategies, and all instructional technologies that support teaching and learning. The ability to teach 15 credits per semester is expected. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.
Duties and responsibilities include teaching courses in General Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and possibly microbiology. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, facilitating student learning through in class and out of class activities, maintaining up to date knowledge in the discipline, learning and utilizing best practices and innovations in science education at the college level, and learning and utilizing state of the art instruction through a variety of delivery systems including interactive video, web, and other electronic media. Teaching faculty will advise students, adopt textbooks, draft course syllabi in collaboration with colleagues, set up and maintain lab environments, help with assessment of adjuncts and program and participate in program, division, and college governance committees. Teaching assignments and schedule may include day and evening assignments, cross-campus or off-campus assignments.
KSA’s/Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in biology or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology and/or Human Physiology or Anatomy. The candidate must have or complete 3 graduate credits in anatomy and 3 graduate credits in physiology within 9 months of hire. Sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant instructional technology resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
3 graduate credits in anatomy and 3 graduate credits in physiology. Experience teaching in a community college setting.
