Minimum Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in an EMS, healthcare discipline, health education, or related field
Current Level II Instructor
Current paramedic credential by the North Carolina Office of EMS (OEMS)
Prior training and/or teaching experience in healthcare or related area
Knowledge about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students
Field experience in the delivery of out of hospital emergency care
Creativity and openness to change
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction
Ability to work effectively and collegially with others in a team environment
Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Position Description
The Program Director, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provide leadership and proactive consultation in responding to the education needs of a variety of EMS and health care providers. The position is responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of appropriate educational and training programs, both credit and non-credit, which strengthen ties with health care and EMS agencies. The program director is responsible for all aspects of the EMS program. Additionally, this position will be responsible for EMS accreditation and the implementation of various projects including but not limited to the American Heart Association Training Center. This position reports directly to the Division Chair, Public Safety. The Program Director has the following responsibilities:
Develops, organizes and administers the EMS program and other continuing education courses
Works collaboratively with faculty, staff and external agencies
Proactively consults with providers to identify training/educational needs and develops curriculum to meet identified needs
Develops and implements strategies to engage stakeholders (employers and students)
Assists in the hiring, orientation and mentoring of new faculty
Supervises and evaluates faculty
Provides leadership for EMS program accreditation
Administers the continuous quality review and improvement process for the EMS program including long range planning, on-going development, and evaluation program effectiveness
Administers American Heart Association Training Center activities
Develops course outlines, schedules and instructional materials
Assists faculty with syllabus development and textbook/course material selection
Ensures compliance with local, state and federal health care and EMS regulations
Assists in course set-up and course scheduling each semester
Conducts systematic evaluation of courses and instructional activities
Maintains instructional records and inventory of educational materials and equipment
Provides academic mentoring for students
Assures that tasks are completed on time and within budget
Schedules meetings of stakeholders and advisory boards
Collects and reports data according to local, state, or federal requirements
Maintains contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations to ensure that instructional programs are current and include advances in occupational or academic fields
Assists with the development and implementation of long range goals and objectives at the program, School, and institutional levels
Assists with the development of promotional materials. Works with marketing to get these materials published and printed, advertised and/or distributed
Assists in student recruitment and retention, including College-wide marketing initiatives
Attends meetings to maintain currency with issues and advances in education and health care
Prepares and submits reports as required by the College
Maintains professional credentials required for EMS instruction and accreditation
Attends College meetings and serves on committees as appropriate
Performs other tasks as assigned that support the mission and initiatives of the College
