Our professorial-led South West Clinical Schools are academic hubs in local NHS Trusts driving forward the nursing, midwifery and allied health professions clinical research agenda. We do this successfully by promoting inter-professional working, embedding evidence-based learning in practice and offering a framework for clinical academic careers. The School is now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and talented clinical academic to join the team. This post is intended to contribute to the leadership of research in clinical nursing. The Associate Professor in Clinical Nursing must have the ability to identify and lead research into original areas of enquiry, and outputs suitable for submission to REF2027. The University of Plymouth offers the largest range of healthcare programmes in the South West of England; including high quality undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in nursing and midwifery. Research in the School of Nursing and Midwifery was rated highly in REF2021 and continues to grow. The South West Clinical Schools initiative continues to grow among our healthcare partners in the South West. An increasing number of clinical professionals are undertaking research where it matters. They focus on topics that are timely and relevant to advancing the quality of care for people living in the South West of England. The clinical research programmes of the South West Clinical Schools are also linked to research clusters within the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research, including digital health and health across the life-course. Based in the Faculty of Health, theSchool of Nursing and Midwiferyprogrammes in the fields of adult, child and mental health nursing and in midwifery have been designed with our students’ career and the future needs of the workforce in mind. The School works in partnership with local NHS trusts to drive forward clinical research and support students in their learning to become the best nurses and midwives they can be. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment help students maximise their potential and develop their core skills, preparing them to embark on exciting and rewarding careers.The School offers further support for student career and professional development in the areas of healthcare, surgical care practice, emergency care and general practice nursing. An interdisciplinary approach to research coverssustainability, the evolution of services, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. You will have a doctorate degree in a relevant field, and substantial experience at Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer/Reader) or equivalent level. You will have a track record of attracting significant research funding and being able to deliver internationally esteemed research output, evidenced through publication and other indicators and registration (or eligibility to gain registration) on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register. This role will require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus an Adults’ Barred List check.
