Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening for a Development Associate within the RVCC Foundation.

This Development Associate position participates in a range of activities that connect corporations and private foundations to RVCC and helps the Foundation achieve its annual fundraising goals. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Foundation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Funds Development: 80%

Identifies grant and sponsorship opportunities with businesses, corporations, and private foundations. Monitors proposal deadlines, writes, submits proposals, and stewards relationships, and manages all from a dynamic grantmaking/fundraising plan.

Identifies prospects through prospect research, then develops specific customized cultivation and solicitation/proposal strategies.

Manages a portfolio of a minimum of 15 donors that includes, but may not be limited to, corporate and private foundation constituents.

Supports fundraising, cultivation, and overall stewardship activities as a member of the Foundation team.

Develops and Grows Internal College Relations with Students, Faculty, Administrators and Staff Colleague: 10%

Engages with relevant faculty to cultivate for grantmaking activity.

Takes lead with faculty on submitting relevant funding proposals.

Takes lead in prepping faculty and staff for donor meetings and visits.

Participates and assists with RVCC Foundation's community-wide programming and events (e.g., Scholarship reviewing/awarding program, Giving Day, annual RVCC Alumni Homecoming event, RVCC Alumni Opportunity Summit, etc.).

Serves on College-wide committees as needed.

Operations: 10%

Prepares for and participates in RVCC Foundation Board and related committee meetings.

Oversees expected grant payments and assists with proper processing and stewardship.

Keeps records and activity current in Raiser's Edge database.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree and minimum of three years of fundraising and non-profit experience required.

Outgoing, warm and welcoming personality with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with a wide range of individuals and constituencies.

Strong written communication skills; demonstrable experience in writing clear, well-organized and persuasive proposals.

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, multi-task, be flexible, and manage the completion of multiple projects with positive attitude and team orientation.

Knowledge of prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Knowledge of and strong skills in Raiser's Edge and strategic database segmentation.

Advanced word processing skills and proficiency in the full suite of Microsoft Office programs, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Extensive knowledge of budget processing and ability to pay attention to detail and maintain accurate records.

Ability to handle multiple competing duties and projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.

Knowledge/interest in higher education and the importance of community colleges on the higher education landscape.

Knowledge of the non-profit sector and fundraising trends therein, as well as knowledge of and experience with soliciting private foundations.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments as needed.

Ability to handle confidential donor/constituency information with sensitivity and integrity.
