Job Description

Speech/Language Pathologist Long Term Substitute - Nixon - .8 FTE

The Sudbury Public Schools, a prek-8 district, is seeking a Speech/Language Pathologist to work as a Long Term Substitute at Nixon Elementary School. This individual works as a member of the special education team providing direct and consultative services for children with communication and other disabilities. Candidate must support inclusive practices.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Determine the need for a speech/ language evaluation, select and administer a variety of appropriate assessment tools to evaluate the student;

• Interpret evaluation data, write comprehensive reports, and recommend and provide service recommendations, goals and objectives based on evaluation information;

• Evaluate a student’s current functional status and implement strategies to improve students’ functional abilities in school classrooms, hallways and other areas that may be part of their educational program using a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews;

• Collaborate with teachers and other disciplines to evaluate students and develop Individualized Education Programs to meet student needs and ensure team understanding of student strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery;

• Integrate services, goals and a program plan into the Individual Education Program in the least restrictive setting;

• Provide targeted, evidence-based therapeutic interventions with measurable objectives and appropriate student engagement strategies to facilitate student participation, independence, and speech/ language performance within the school environment;

• Assist teachers in modifying classroom activities as necessary;

• Document speech therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision and meet standards for reimbursement of services as appropriate;

• Work with general education staff with respect to appropriate accommodations and modifications for students with communication, hearing, speech, and language needs;

• Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals for progress monitoring and progress reporting;

• Use professional literature, evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions;

• Adhere to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies that affect speech therapy practice, including compliance with all aspect of the Massachusetts IEP process and local procedures;

• Other related duties as assigned.

The position would cover a leave of absence from August 29, 2022 - January 2023

Job Requirements

• Master’s degree required in Speech and Language; CCC and ASHA certification preferred;

• Must have a licensure as a Specialist Teacher of Speech, Language and Hearing Disorders through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;

• Must have demonstrated success with and be knowledgeable about a variety of interventions for a range of disabilities;

• Experience and training in social skill and pragmatic language development a must;

• Must possess knowledge and skills of hearing and auditory needs of children with hearing impairments;

• Must possess knowledge of AAC devices;

• Must be willing to co-treat and co-teach;

• Must have training and experience with the administration and interpretation of a wide range of assessments and evaluation tools;

• Excellent writing and communication skills required.

Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.
