Job Description
Special Education Tutors (STEPS Program)
The Sudbury Public Schools, a PreK-8 district, is seeking 2 enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to work as an ABA Tutor in the STEPS program at the Josiah Haynes Elementary School. The program is designed to help children diagnosed with autism, emotional impairment, communication disorders, and learning disabilities to reach their full potential. The students receive highly specialized instruction with inclusion opportunities provided and supported as appropriate. This work is performed in the special education classroom and general education classrooms under the direct supervision of a Master’s-level Lead Teacher. Other members of the Steps Team include a Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, behavioral specialist, and other specialists as needed. Expert internal and external consultants provide on-going professional development and support to the Team.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Aid in planning and implementing academic and behavioral programming for assigned students in collaboration with other members of the team;
• Record and summarize data;
• Assist in data collection and the writing of progress reports in collaboration with the Lead Teacher;
• Meet regularly with team members and parents;
• Embed into teaching and learning the student’s skills learned in related services (OT, PT, Speech and Language, etc.) per the recommendations of the service providers;
• Accommodate and modify general education curriculum and instructions to meet student’s needs and skill level to insure successful inclusion experiences;
• Actively participate in ongoing professional development;
• Collaborate with other team members;
• Other related duties as assigned.
Classification: ESPAS Level 9 Unit Position
Schedule: 183 days (1.0 FTE)

Job Requirements
• Meets the Department of Education Guidelines for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals which includes:
High School diploma or equivalent and an Associate’s (or higher) degree;
OR
Completion of 48 credit hours at an Institution of Higher Education;
OR
Completion of one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys;
• Experience in teaching and supporting children with Autism, emotional impairment, communication disorders, and/or learning disabilities required;
• Demonstrated warmth, caring, and respect in the approach to children and parents required;
• A strong commitment to children with significant disabilities required;
• Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology or related field preferred;
• Experience and/or training in ABA, PRT, and/or other research-based methodologies preferred;
• Experience in Steps or similar specialized programs, and in collaborating with general education teachers preferred.
Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.
