What you would do:
In this position you are an efficient collaborator and a generous team player that can operate both strategically and operationally. You will use your great attention to detail to manage the day-to-day programming needs of the University's benefits offerings that include generous retirement plans as well as group medical/dental/vision plans.
You will use your combination of expertise and empathy to help employees understand and optimize their benefits regarding paid leaves, worker's compensation, and accommodation situations. Effective management of these matters, so important to our employees, will also require great attention to detail.
You will use your skills in leadership, strategic thinking, and analytics as you work with the University's benefits consultants and vendors, stewarding these vital resources for the University's employees.
Working within our generous retirement package, you will develop effective communications to employees surrounding events like open enrollment, life event changes and retirement as well as managing eligibility/participation.
Your project management skills will be used in coordinating annual audit processes of the retirement plans and ensuring the annual benefits-related forms and reports are processed, while following proper policies and practices in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Requirements:
SPU HR seeks a purpose-driven professional with intermediate to advanced knowledge of HR functions, program management or leadership skills, to provide operational and strategic leadership of SPU's employee benefits program. Some benefits experience is preferred but many specific responsibilities could be developed on the job in a person with the right skill set.
Bachelor's degree in business management, human resource management or other related field, and/or commensurate experience.
Ability to communicate complicated subject matter clearly. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Mature in character, able to use good judgment in making decisions and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong attention to detail, minimum intermediate user in Excel. Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including Work, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams.
Commitment to SPU's Christian mission and a desire to serve SPU employees with a humble spirit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in business, human resources or related fields and/or commensurate experience in benefits management.
4 years of experience coordinating benefits programs, higher-ed experience a plus.
Prefer PHR or SPHR; and CEBS or GBA.
Additional Information:
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary: $67,000 - $77,000 annually DOE
This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
