Kindergarten Teacher Assistant (.5 FTE)
Reports to: Principal/Early Childhood Administrator
Position Summary:
The role of the Kindergarten Teacher Assistant is to support students in the general education classroom.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Works with large and small groups and individuals to reinforce learning of materials introduced by the teacher;
Assists the teacher in devising and implementing strategies for reinforcing skills of student;
Communicates with teacher regarding student concerns and needs, both academic and behavioral;
Assists with the supervision of students during non-class time, including, but not limited to the following: recess, lunch, passing times, assemblies and school meetings, field trips, transportation, school arrival and departure, emergency drills, and other situations as deemed appropriate for the grade level and position;
Assists with classroom routine and management;
Serves as source of information and help to substitute teachers;
Participates in all job-related workshops;
Maintains an appropriate level of confidentiality;
Supervise / lead class during times when lead teacher attends meetings;
Assists in implementation and follow through of behavior plans for individual students;
Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.
Classification: ESPAS Level 7 Unit Position
Schedule:182 days (.5 FTE)

Job Requirements
Meets the Department of Education Guidelines for Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals which includes:
High School diploma or equivalent and an Associate’s (or higher) degree;
OR
Completion of 48 credit hours at an Institution of Higher Education;
OR
Completion of one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys;
Bachelor’s degree preferred;
Prior experience working with children;
Background in special education or experience working with special education students preferred;
Have a flexible attitude and work well in teams
Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.
