Job Goal:
The Career and Life Skills Teacher is responsible for preparing engaging, active, learner-centered lessons for adult immigrant students at beginning levels of English proficiency. Instruction focuses on English reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and grammar according to the curricular guidelines of the program. Teachers follow the SCALE ELL curriculum to provide a rigorous and meaningful educational experience to meet program objectives and student goals.
Respoonsibilities:
The Career and Life Skills class incorporates Integrated and Contextualized learning to emphasize skills that help learners function effectively within the workforce and civic and community life (Digital Literacy, Financial Literacy, Health Literacy, Civics Education Skills, and Workplace Preparation).
Plan and deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the ELL Department’s Curriculum Guidelines and the MA DESE English Language Proficiency Standards.
Work effectively with other teachers, advisors, and program administrators for program effectiveness and to ensure the development and growth of student knowledge and skills.
Follow all department policy/procedures regarding the delivery of instruction, progress monitoring and placement, substitutes and substitute lesson plans and operating procedures.
Integrate technology into instruction.
Qualifications:
Appropriate Department of Elementary and Secondary Educator's license in the field or subject for this position (ESL or ELL Licensure Preferred)
Bilingual speaker preferred (Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Creole)
SEI Endorsement is preferred
Terms of Employment:
Part-Time: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Nine (9) teaching hours and two preparation hours per week
Monthly meetings, 12:15 pm – 1:15 p.m. or as directed by SCALE leadership·
Teaching Responsibilities begin in September and continue through the end of our second instructional cycle before June 30, 2023.
Salary:
The salary range is in accordance with SEU Unit D Collective Bargaining Agreement
