Director of Educator Development

Job Goal
The Director of Educator Development has core responsibility for directing, managing, and coordinating activities that support educators’ continuous development and growth. The Director of Educator Development will work collaboratively with the Chief Personnel Officer to create pathways and opportunities for the development and advancement of all SPS staff. The Director of Educator Development will help to oversee and implement the district mentoring and induction programs, the district professional development and learning opportunities, and the district educator leadership model. The Director will also contribute to ensuring that the educator evaluation system lives up to its potential as a system of support for the professional growth of all Somerville educators. The Director of Educator Development, in collaboration with the Chief Personnel Officer and other school and district leaders, will foster a community of professional collaboration and continuous learning among all SPS staff to lead to high educator satisfaction and retention.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Identify, organize, and plan professional learning opportunities in close collaboration with school and district leaders that
build internal capacity and strengthen the skills needed for a culture of inquiry, reflection, analysis, and collaboration
Develop a district Professional Development Plan that reflects the district’s goals and priorities and the Standards of Effective Teaching Practice and Administrative Leadership Practice
In partnership with the Director for Equity and Excellence, advance the district’s understanding of educational equity, what it looks like in practice, and the critical role of cultural proficiency in identifying opportunity inequities
Support principals and school Instructional Leadership Teams in identifying and delivering building-based professional learning for all school staff aligned with the goals and priorities of the District Instructional Leadership Team
Serve as a primary point of contact with district PD partners and providers
Collaborate with school and district leaders to coordinate and co-facilitate annual orientations for new staff
Collaborate with the Chief Personnel Officer to oversee the district’s mentoring and induction program along with the district Mentor Coordinators to ensure quality, impact, and compliance with state regulation
Provide support and serve as a resource to District principals and other evaluators in maximizing the potential of the Educator Evaluation system
Cultivate an atmosphere
of trust and collaboration among staff that will promote professional growth and accelerate
the achievement of all students
Identify evidence of the effectiveness of adult learning experiences in order to collect and analyze data to shape future experiences
Collect and utilize staff feedback to improve all systems and structures related to professional learning and growth
Coordinate the operational and strategic management of key tools and systems including the online management systems for professional learning and evaluation used by the District
Perform other responsibilities as required and assigned
Qualifications:
Massachusetts educator license
Master's Degree
Five years' experience in an educational institution
Extensive experience managing complex projects in fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to manage high-level relationships
Ability to prioritize, plan, execute and deliver successful outcomes
Knowledge of principles and practices of school administration, adult learning, budget development, program management, and implementation of federal, state and local legislation pertaining to education
Experience with the MA Educator Evaluation system
Effective communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills with educators and leaders
Committed to educator reflection, agency, and empowerment
Strong facilitation, organizational and technical skills
Proficiency in Google platform (e.g. Google Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides)
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working as a school administrator or senior level experience managing operations in a complex, unionized urban environment
Massachusetts DESE License in Supervisor/Director, Principal/Assistant Principal or Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
