Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: August 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach the program's primary recruitment courses, Introduction to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology and Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, as well as other 200-300 level topical courses within the current course offerings. Candidates with expertise in the archaeology and cultures of the Americas are especially encouraged to apply.

RANK & SALARY: Full-time, non-tenure-track faculty appointment. Teaching load of 4/4 within Anthropology is required. Salary commensurate with Instructor/Associate Faculty. Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ABD in Anthropology. Demonstrable expertise in anthropological archaeology. Commitment to building a diverse and inclusive educational environment for both on-campus and fully-online students. Record of or evidence of potential for excellence in undergraduate instruction.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD is preferred. Evidence of ability to teach at the university level and commitment to scholarly/research activities. Demonstrable experience in teaching or working with diverse student populations. Experience with online, face-to-face, and hybrid course delivery formats and the associated technologies. Noteworthy teaching experience in an academic setting is preferred.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be in hand at the time of application.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Anthropology Program is part of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, located on the Macomb campus. The program offers students training in the four-fields of Anthropology and is the first fully online BA in Anthropology program at an Illinois public college/university. We have long-standing relationships with regional institutions including the Field Museum of Natural History and Dickson Mounds Museum. Students also participate in short term study abroad programs, our Archeological Field School, and federally funded research. WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 6,432): A traditional, residential four-year campus offering a comprehensive slate of undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Amtrak provides twice-daily service from Macomb to Chicago (and point in-between). Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,192): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan, non-residential campus in Moline, IL.
