Job Description

Title: Elementary Special Educator (ACCESS Program) Reports to: Principal and Director of Student Services - Location: Nixon Elementary School Position Summary: The Sudbury Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated individual to work as a Special Educator within the ACCESS program for grades 3-5 at the Nixon Elementary School. The ACCESS program is inclusion-based and provides a constellation of therapeutic supports and services for students with disabilities impacting their social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. The program provides direct instruction and significant embedded support in the areas of social, academic, behavior, language, self-regulation and communication skills across all environments. This position entails the work of inclusive or sub-separate environments. Key Duties & Responsibilities: Plan for the effective instruction and intervention for students on IEPs; Administer formal diagnostic assessments and tests for students initially referred and for three-year re-evaluations of caseload students; Administer ongoing progress monitoring, strategic monitoring and benchmark systems; Schedule, prepare for, and attend Team meetings for newly referred and caseload students; Write comprehensive progress reports; Collaborate with general education staff with respect to appropriate accommodations and modifications; Provide ongoing positive communication with parents; Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals; Coordinate and manage teaching assistants and tutors associated with ACCESS; Other related duties as assigned. Classification: SEA Unit Position Work Year: 183 days (1.0 FTE) Salary: Commensurate with education and experience based on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement. Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;

Must have appropriate Massachusetts licensure through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;

Background in special education or experience working with students with a range of disabilities including significant social-emotional and/or behavioral needs, and/or learning disabilities preferred;

Experience with utilizing principles of ABA

Must have demonstrated success with and be knowledgeable about research-based interventions for children with these disabilities;

Experience and expertise in de-escalation techniques preferred;

Must possess demonstrated ability to develop positive behavior intervention plans;

Experience in Wilson/O-G, EmPOWER Writing, executive functioning training a plus;

Experience with the administration and interpretation of a wide range of formal and informal diagnostic assessment and evaluation tools;

Excellent writing and communication skills required.
