Special Education Team Chair (.7 FTE)
Reports to: Director of Student Services/Principal
Location: Peter Noyes Elementary School
Position Summary:
The Sudbury Public Schools, a prek-8 district, is seeking a Special Education Team Chair to work at Noyes Elementary School. This individual will be responsible for overseeing, facilitating and managing all aspects of the team process. Responsibilities include organizing and processing mandated paperwork, chairing Team meetings, maintaining student records and being an active member of the special education staff. This is a teacher leader position that requires the individual to work closely with administration, building-based staff, parents and district-wide team chairs.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Coordinate all required state and federal mandated Special Education procedures for initials, re-evaluations and annual reviews in accordance with regulations;
• Chair all IEP meetings, facilitate a consensus among team members, including professionals and parents/guardians, and make decisions in a timely manner;
• Process referrals from school or parent or agency;
• Keep an accurate log of all steps of the evaluation process including state-mandated forms sent and received, dates of completion of assessments, time lines, etc;
• Designate and assign assessments in all areas of the suspected disabilities to all members of the evaluation team;
• Schedule IEP meetings with parents, general and special educators, related service providers, administrators, external providers, and advocates and attorneys;
• Update principals and Special Education staff in the buildings on special education issues and changes;
• Train and consult with staff on IEP preparation and process including e-Sped technology;
• Coordinate and participate in transitional planning for students moving to other schools and/or programs, pursuing adequacy and appropriateness of services in the receiving settings;
• During the budget process and throughout the school year, recommend, request, and facilitate the timely receipt of teaching and learning supplies and materials relating to IEP-required services;
• Serve as the special education case manager during the special education planning and implementation process, collaborating with all internal members of the Team and be the primary contact between school and the home and external providers;
• Engage with parents as partners in planning, and facilitate collaborative problem solving to address concerns, complaints, misunderstandings and miscommunication;
• Facilitate meetings of internal staff to address concerns regarding IEP contents and service delivery, implementation of accommodations, placement decisions, transitions, manifestation determinations, transportation, etc;
• Serve as a member of the Team Chair Group, collaborating with other Team Chairs, and the Director of Student Services in regular and extraordinary problem solving, planning, data collection and analysis, reporting, etc.;
• Other related duties as assigned.
Classification: SEA Unit Position
Work Year: 183 days (.5 FTE)
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience based on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree with a specialization in special education or related services preferred;
• Massachusetts certification in Special Education or a related service field through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;
• 3-5 years of experience in public school direct services special education or related services;
• Knowledgeable of state and federal special education laws and requirements;
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and written/oral communication skills;
• Skills in interpreting assessments and determining educational interventions;
• Demonstrated skill in meeting facilitation and case management;
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage the special education referral and team process.
Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.
