J.J. Flynn Elementary School is seeking a passionate and energetic Special Education Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students in typical and alternative settings. This position requires working with a diverse student population. Applicants must be dedicated to the belief and desire for the inclusion of all students, and eager to be a member of a high energy, fast-paced dedicated special education team as well as individual student teams in support of student success for all.
Job Requirements:
Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License
Licensed in Special Education
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
Required Qualifications:
Experience in closely working with, providing direct instruction to, and case-managing special education and 504 students.
Experience in communicating and maintaining positive relationships with parents and guardians of students with intensive needs
Experience in planning, leading and managing large and potentially complex IEP meetings with students, parents, teachers, outside agencies, community mentors, and other support people
Demonstrated skills in effective consultation with teacher colleagues and other school and community agencies to support student success in the classroom
Experience or ability in co-teaching with regular education teachers
Ability to train and supervise para-educators
Experience in working with ELL students who have language development needs desirable
Demonstrated ability to complete required IEP and other required documents in a timely and efficient way
Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring).
Knowledge of best practices in engaging and motivating students and managing student behaviors.
Preferred Attributes
Experience teaching at the secondary level.
Experience working with students who experienced trauma and behavior challenges.
Participation in professional learning community groups including working collaboratively with colleagues to plan units of study, review student data and progress, and adjust instruction.
A commitment to student-centered learning approaches including personalizing instruction and supporting students meeting core proficiencies
Training and experience with English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
Evidence of strong connection with students and families.
Strong communication skills as evidenced through quality of resume, cover letter, and essays.
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
