Job Description:

Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by helping lead the institution's efforts to support STEM education and student success. This position will report to the Director of the Institute for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (IITL) and coordinate with the Director to support math education and course development of in-person and online courses. To compliment these efforts, the candidate will teach 3-6 credits of developmental math courses and/or general education mathematics courses per 15-week semester. In addition, the position will be responsible for managing the content of developmental and general education math courses, scheduling courses, and assessing learning outcomes. The Associate Director will be part of the Professional and Administrative faculty, allowing for access to annual faculty development funds.

Salary: $65,000/year or more, depending on experience.

Essential Functions

Collaborates to oversee student success rates in foundational math courses on a weekly basis.

Develops and maintains a program of support for the math assessment tool, ALEKS.

Assesses curriculum for foundational math courses and develop/adjust courses, in all modalities, based on need.

Creates and maintains course shells for developmental and general education math courses in Moodle (Norwich's LMS).

Works with the Director of the IITL and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to track student success and develop plans to increase retention and graduation rates.

Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.

Participates in regular professional development to improve teaching methods, remain current in educational trends, and cultivate networks.

Teaches 3-6 credit hours per 15-week semester.

Other Functions

Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.

Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.

Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.

Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.

Speaks, reads and writes in English.

Communicates by telephone, email, letter, in person, or other means or device.

Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or related field required. Higher degree preferred.

15 credit hours or more of face-to-face college level teaching and experience teaching mathematics. Ability to teach a wide range of developmental or general education mathematics courses. Experience integrating technology and innovative teaching strategies to improve student learning required.

Experience student advising or counseling, teaching in online formats, and experience in accelerated and/or technology supported developmental mathematics pathways preferred.

Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience working with ALEKS preferred.

Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus

Work some evening or weekend hours

Environmental Conditions

Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
