Profile

BHS is seeking a passionate and energetic English Teacher to join a school committed to high levels of achievement of all students. This position requires teaming with other teachers in the humanities to teach in a foundational ninth grade program as well as teaching an elective course, an independent study and an advisory.

Job Requirements:

Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.

Endorsement in high school English or eligible for Vermont Provisional License.

Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status.

Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required Qualifications:

Experience teaching at the high school level.

Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring)

Knowledge of current Reading Programs (Reading Plus)

Knowledge of curriculum planning using “backwards design”, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment.

Ability to diagnose, assess, prescribe, and evaluate the reading needs of individual students to determine level of need

Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.

Preferred Attributes

Training and experience with English Language Learners.

Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool.

Experience in a professional/teaching-learning community or similar learning community.

Ongoing educational training.

SALARY:

As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
