Profile

The Design & Technology Education Teacher is a unionized, exempt position that will report to the Principal. The ideal candidate will have or is willing to earn their state certification in Design and Technology Education (Endorsement Code 9-10). Qualified applicants must have experience working with students in a Project-Based Learning Environment, be able to lead manufacturing-based projects, and demonstrate knowledge of materials processing and real-world design challenges. Design and Technology is a class where math and science come alive for students which means that applicants should be well versed in Design Thinking as well as STEAM. Successful applicants should also have a background in both 2D and 3D design, as well as an understanding of the rapid prototyping technologies associated with Computer-Aided Design. During students' sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade experiences in our Design and Technology Program, they will receive instruction in powertool operation, digital design, material processing, be able to apply the design and problem-solving process, have an introduction to electricity and electronics, and will learn to measure with a high level of accuracy. Mentoring and flexibility in how you help students achieve our learning targets are important features for this position.

The Essential Functions of this position include:

Instructional Strategies

Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans, class activities, and a variety of instructional materials that facilitate active and meaningful learning. Develop lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established expectations.

In harmony with the parameters of the District-adopted curriculum, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc, and communicate these objectives and their purpose to students.

Adapt and reassess lesson plans to meet specific student needs; comply with newly implemented guidelines or rules, and update lesson plans and activities to incorporate best practices and new developments in education.

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

Assess and record learning on an ongoing basis and adjust instruction based on the assessments.

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Possess and continually develop a working knowledge of state and District curriculum standards and frameworks.

Participate in scheduled in-service days and staff meetings.

Cooperate with and support other faculty and staff in planning instruction and coordinating services for students.

Use discretion in discussing school affairs, recognizing the value of positive school-community relations.

Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education, goals, and instructional objectives.

Comply with Board and administrative policies, regulations, and procedures and reinforce students’ doing the same.

Direct assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.

Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.

Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, lesson plans following scope and sequence, correspondence with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.

Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, bullying, hazing, zero-tolerance offenses, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to state law and board policies.

Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.

Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.

Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned.

Student Growth and Development

Develop, maintain, and stimulate pupils’ curiosity, interest, and enjoyment in Design Develop pupils’ familiarity, competence, and confidence within a safe workshop environment.

Provide challenges for every pupil and encourage all pupils to achieve their potential in Design and Technology.

Contribute and engage in extra-curricular Design and Technology activities.

The required education and experience for this position include:

Education

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s degree.

Certification: Valid Educator License granted by the Vermont Department of Education with the proper Endorsement.

We will interview qualified applicants who are currently working towards earning a Design & Technology endorsement assuming that they have relevant teaching experience.

Documented or eligible for NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher status as applicable

Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Experience:

Minimum Required: Past experience with Project-Based Learning to cultivate and actively engage students through an exploration of real-world challenges and problems.

Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, materials processing, & implementation of the Design Thinking mindset.

Well trained in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM).

Proficient in Computer-Aided Design in 2D drawings and 3D models

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.

Thorough knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters, and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.

Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches

List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required

Create and foster a safe working environment in our well-equipped shop.

Develop students’ technical vocabulary.

Develop students’ digital literacy skills.

Provide all of the safety training necessary for 11-14-year-old students to work with hand and power tools.

Able to teach 2d and 3d Computer-Aided Design.

Current software used includes 3d

SketchUp, 2D Gravit Designer, CNC Vcarve Pro, 2d Coreldraw.
