Edmunds Middle School is seeking a passionate and energetic Paraeducator to assist in the Band program. We are a very enthusiastic and large performance music program with great community support. You will be engaging students in 6, 7, and 8th grade in learning instruments and band music. This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills. The Paraeducator assists professionals in the development and implementation of a constructive music room and program. Responsibilities include
communication facilitation, carrying out programs designed by the teaching staff, managing behavior, and supporting & facilitating engagement with peers. The Paraeducator - Music Room Assistant
is a non-exempt/hourly position that reports to the Principal. This position is a member of the BEA Paraeducators union.
The Essential Functions of this position include:
Support the developmental growth of each student:
Facilitate students’ engagement in learning activities
Use motivation/positive behavior management techniques
Understand students, their behaviors, and motivation
Work Collaboratively with Teaching Team by
Using methods, and materials prescribed by the teaching team
Assist professional staff in supervising students across environments
Assist professional staff in the maintenance and operation of classrooms by prepping materials and classrooms for daily activities, and supporting modifications
Participate in scheduled paraeducator in-service and trainings
Assist professional staff with the collation and recording of data
Perform other tasks and duties as appropriate and/or assigned
Maintain Professionalism:
Accept constructive feedback and suggestions from the teaching team and use the information to enhance/improve one's work with young people
Maintain a positive attitude and working relationship with both students and colleagues
Effectively handle stress and stressful situations at work
Seek and ask for help if needed
Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with Federal Law (FERPA)
Maintain a respectful demeanor with co-workers, parents, guardians, and students, and set appropriate boundaries
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: (please see bolded bullet)
Working knowledge: Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
General knowledge: Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
Thorough knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters, and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
Comprehensive knowledge: Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
List Specific Skills And/Or Abilities Required:
Knowledge of primary instruments, aural skills and general musicianship.
Enjoys working with students ages 11-14.
Enthusiastic to share their love of music with students and the community at large.
Available Monday-Friday 7:45-3:15pm throughout the school year.
Able to attend concerts: 3-4 per year.
Ability to effectively, efficiently, and regularly communicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, including students, peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and representatives of outside organizations.
Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle stress.
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Paraeducators of the BurlingtonSchool District.
