Profile

The Associate District Coordinator of Special Education is

responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and federal legislation pertaining to students receiving Special Education services including providing leadership and technical assistance to teachers, principals, and district administrators. Under the direction of the Director of Student Support Services, the Assistant Director will manage the district-wide systems for compliance and all services pertaining to Special Education for a portfolio of schools with 6-12 grades and serve as the direct support point person for all matters pertaining to maintaining Special Education services at school sites. The Assistant Director will also help develop the strategy for transitioning the management of compliance systems to school-based personnel over the next 1-2 years and provide oversight of implementation for the identified school personnel.

Assure the implementation of State and Federal laws, statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to Special Education including:

Oversee procedural and substantive compliance with state and federal special education and section 504 laws by serving as the liaison to school principals and special education teams at schools,

Coordinate special education in all sites in assigned district(s) in collaboration with district administration,

Shall represent the Student Support Services team and be a collaborative member of the assigned district(s) Administrative Team meetings,

Oversee district IEP implementation,

Leads State & Federal monitoring and data collection in assigned district(s),

Monitors due process implementation to check for compliance with rules and regulations and to increase case manager’s skill/knowledge,

Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws, and educational methods of teaching students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing effective special education programs in District schools,

Assumes responsibility for implementation of new initiatives and due process requirements in assigned portfolio schools,

Serves as BSD representative at student meetings to provide: conflict resolution; provision of resources and due process monitoring

Lead regular procedural compliance reviews and set measurable goals for each school

Oversee collaboration with outside providers to secure contracted services to ensure compliance

Develop professional development opportunities for certified and non-certified staff, parents and administrators including:

Collecting program evaluation data, analyzing, and making program recommendations for assigned portfolio schools,

Provide and/or assist in providing professional development activities in order to increase knowledge and skills of special education staff, regular education teachers, administration, and support staff,

Discuss with the Director of Special Education any gaps or weaknesses in meeting the needs of students with disabilities in the assigned portfolio schools,

Plan and facilitate assigned service provider meetings in order to provide support and training specific to various service areas including contracted partners and in-District providers,

Create and refine resources for Special Education to ensure high-quality IEP and related documents including the revision of the BSD Special Education Procedures Manual, and

Coach and evaluate case-managers, school psychologists, and special education related service providers in District-wide policies to ensure high-quality Special Education programming and services

Assist the Director of Special Education in District-wide program planning including new, improved, or expanded Special Education programs, roles or services to ensure students with disabilities are provided a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment including:

Conducting workload analysis of caseloads,

Reviewing schedules of certified and non-certified special education personnel,

Conducting analysis of student needs and programming recommendations on student’s Individual Education Plans, and

Preparing reports and recommendations to improve the provision of Special Education to the Director of Special Education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Minimum Required: M. Ed, SP

Certification Preferred: Administrator or Special Education

Experience:

Minimum Required:

At least 2 years experience as a special education teacher, school psychologist, or full-time related service provider

At least 2 years experience as a school or district-level administrator

Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.

General knowledge:

Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.

Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.

Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Skilled at using technology to gather and present compliance data

Experience as an evaluator working in the role of special educator, school psychologist, or related service provider

Experience with working with EasyIEP
