Qualifications
Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Viola/Violin Performance or Music Education
Excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performer
Strong understanding of viola pedagogy
Strong commitment to the department’s philosophy of social change through music
Experience working with children from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Self-motivated and willing to collaborate in a team-teaching environment
At least 2 years of prior teaching experience preferred
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Responsibilities:
Develop and teach engaging group viola lessons that:
Establish routines and encourage development of strong fundamental skills
Incorporate a variety of strategies (movement, ear training, music reading) and activities (exercises, games, demonstration, listening, etc)
Maintain excellent classroom management
Adapt to the needs of students at various levels and with various learning styles
Encourage peer teaching
Collaborating closely with the Administration and faculty to achieve program-wide learning goals
Maintaining a positive and nurturing classroom environment
Setting and maintaining high standards for student behavior and music learning
Enforcing program rules and policies
Terms of Employment:
Seasonal/Yearly Employment
Location: East Somerville Community School
Rate: $40/per hour
Mandatory Orientation and Professional Development Day: July 22 via Zoom
Program Schedule:
5 days a week, Monday through Friday
Start Date:
July 24, 2023
End Date: August 4, 2023 (must participate with final concert on this date)
Hours: 8:30am - 12:30pm
