The University of Montana invites applications for an
Associate or Full Professor of Public Administration & Policy
with a current academic record to qualify for tenure by August 2023. The appointment will begin June 15, 2023. The successful candidate will be a public administration generalist with the ability to teach at the graduate level in our MPA Program and occasionally within our nonprofit graduate level certificate or our undergraduate minor in nonprofit administration. The applicant’s area of expertise in public administration is open; however, applicants will be required to teach across our MPA core curriculum (for example, Public Administration, Policy Analysis, Policy Process & Implementation). Upon appointment, the candidate also will serve as the Director for our Master of Public Administration Program and Department Chair for a three-year renewable term.

Position Details
Position is full-time (1.0 FTE), academic year, tenure-track faculty position and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package
including health and life insurance, mandatory retirement savings plan, partial tuition waiver, and an employee wellness program
2:3 teaching load; this person receives a 1 course teaching reduction (2:2) to serve as the Director of Master of Public Administration Program and Department Chair for three years, renewable upon faculty and dean approval
Salary for this position is $100,000-105,000 per year commensurate with qualifications with an additional administrative stipend of $3,900 for MPA Director/DPAP Chair
Minimum Qualifications
MPA/MPP or master’s degree in related field
Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, or related field
Substantial professional experience in the public or nonprofit sector
Commitment to student success
Experience teaching in public administration at graduate and undergraduate level
Commitment to cultural awareness
and practice with diverse individuals and communities
Experience teaching online (asynchronous) and in-person
Experience mentoring junior faculty
Experience with NASPAA accreditation
Publication record to obtain tenure at the rank of associate or full professor (rank as associate professor requires at least 6 peer reviewed publications or a book and 3 peer reviewed publications) (rank as full professor requires at least experience at the rank of an associate professor; demonstrated leadership experience for university/community; one book manuscript and 11 peer-reviewed publications)
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of an active research agenda commensurate with the rank as an associate or full professor
Experience administering a NASPAA accredited MPA Program
Interest in public administration and policy issues of the Rocky Mountain West
Commitment to collegiality
