Position Summary
The fixed-term assistant professor is expected to lead and participate in multiple avenues of research including the pre-clinical analysis of gene-therapy and neuroregenerative interventions to provide therapeutic benefit and/or reduce common therapeutic side effects in Parkinson’s disease. More specifically investigations will include 1) development of gene level silencing of CaV1.3 channels in brain using rAAV-CaV1.3-sh/miRNA to prevent/reverse the devastating side-effect known as levodopa-induced dyskinesias (LID), decrease motor dysfunction and delay disease progression using parkinsonian animal models, and 2) explore the impact of a common human single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) on the on the ability to remodel the parkinsonian striatum with new DA terminals using neural grafting in a CRISPR knock-in rat model of the human SNP rs6265 BDNF as a model system. This person also is expected to develop their own independent areas of research that will compliment/expand translational research efforts in the Translational Neuroscience unit in the College of Human Medicine at MSU. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring and instruction of students in MSU graduate training programs and work with existing faculty to broaden and enhance the vision for research at MSU.

Minimum Requirements
The position requires a PhD or equivalent with a record of scholarship and grant awards in Parkinson’s disease research commensurate with experience. An established track record of participating in multidisciplinary team-based collaborations is essential as well as experience mentoring students/fellows.
Desired Qualifications
Five or more years experience in cell, molecular, and histological techniques such as cell culture, flow cytometry, RNA in situ hybridization, q/ddPCR, western blot, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy are desired. Applicants with proficiency in performing stereotaxic surgeries, animal husbandry and behavior studies, as well as post-mortem tissue processing are strongly encouraged to apply.
