Job Description:
The post-bac research assistant will work with professional staff on this project to quantify stream bank erosion using repeat RTK-GPS surveying, drone photogrammetry, and dem-differencing with repeat lidar acquisitions for Lancaster County. Sites of high rates of erosion will be investigated in the field, including with game cameras for continuous monitoring, in order to provide visual documentation of types and amounts of erosion. In addition, assistant will collect sediment samples and analyze them in the laboratory for nutrient concentrations, grain size, and other attributes. Assistant also will create GIS-based communication tools based on all work.
Essential Functions:
Process and interpret field, laboratory, and GIS data
Use dem-difference and other techniques (including GPS surveying) to quantify stream bank erosion.
Collect samples of sediment in the field and analyze in the laboratory for grain size, nutrient concentration, and other attributes
Assist with field work logistics
Maintain field equipment and instrumentation
Fly a drone for aerial photos and photogrammetry
Create GIS-based communication tools based on all work, and help create and present results to the public and scholarly community
Assist students conducting independent study projects (with faculty)

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree is required
GIS experience, preferably coursework in ArcGIS Pro is preferred
Coursework in geoscience, environmental science, chemistry, statistics, and related fields is required
FAA drone pilot license (can be acquired once hired)
GPS survey experience is preferred
Advanced level of proficiency using Google Suite is required
Experience using ArcGIS Pro, including ESRI StoryMaps is preferred
Ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
Because this position requires driving for college business, the successful candidate must possess a U.S. or Canadian driver's license which has been valid for at least two years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last three years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Additional Information:
