The Department of History at the University of Montana invites applications for the A. B. Hammond Visiting Assistant Professor in Western United States History to begin January 10, 2022. This is a non-tenure track, one and one-half year position (through May 2023), with the possibility of a one-year renewal pending performance review and funding approval. A Ph.D. in history or cognate field at the time of hire is preferred. Advanced ABDs will be considered. We are especially interested in candidates whose work engages environmental history, indigenous history, and/or public history. The successful candidate will teach six undergraduate and graduate courses in the history of the American West and related fields over the three semesters of the initial appointment. The successful candidate will also play an active role in the department’s public history and graduate programs and give a public lecture based on her or his research. Position Details
