Burlington High School is seeking a passionate and energetic Reading Specialist to join a school committed to high levels of achievement for all students. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of the science of reading and experience in improving student outcomes by implementing research-based interventions, programs, techniques, and strategies. It is essential that the teacher candidate has the ability to collaborate with other educators and team members to best meet the needs of a diverse group of students. Experience working with English Language Learners and students with educational plans is preferred. Other responsibilities include planning and delivering differentiated reading instruction to target phonemic awareness, comprehension, and fluency, and administering assessments to gather data for progress monitoring and curriculum development. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills in order to develop positive, meaningful, and supportive relationships with students.
Job Requirements:
Licensed or eligible for Vermont Educators License.
Reading Specialist Endorsement.
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Required Qualifications:
Experience teaching at the high school level.
Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 in application)
Knowledge of current Reading Programs
Knowledge of curriculum planning using “backwards design”, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment.
Ability to diagnose, assess, prescribe, and evaluate the reading needs of individual students to determine level of need.
Ability to work with a vulnerable population of students.
Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.
Preferred Attributes
Orton-Gillingham and/or Wilson Reading Program training/certification
Training and experience with English Language Learners.
Familiarity with integrated technology as a learning tool.
Experience in a professional/teaching-learning community or similar learning community.
Ongoing educational training.
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a Grant funded position.
