The University of Montana (UM) is pleased to announce a search to fill the
James K. Ringelman Chair in Waterfowl Conservation
for a twelve-month, tenure track faculty position to begin Fall 2022. We encourage candidates with demonstrated excellence in waterfowl ecology, conservation, or management. This faculty appointment will be within the Wildlife Biology Program
and have its home in the Department of Ecosystem and Conservation Sciences within the Franke College of Forestry and Conservation with possible co-appointment in Division of Biological Sciences. The Wildlife Biology Program is an interdisciplinary group of faculty from the Division of Biological Sciences, the Franke College of Forestry and Conservation (FCFC), and the Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit. The Wildlife Biology Program is an internationally recognized program comprised of interactive faculty with outstanding records of scholarship and teaching. It ranks as one of the top Wildlife/Conservation programs in the US, and has been recognized as one of three Programs of National Distinction by the UM administration.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) develop and implement a vigorous externally-funded research program focused on the management and conservation of waterfowl, with major focus in the Prairie Pothole Region, North America’s most productive waterfowl breeding area; 2) teach a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses within area of expertise (totaling ~ six credits per year); 3) excel at graduate research and training with Master’s and Doctoral students; 4) advise undergraduate students in Wildlife Biology program including promoting waterfowl conservation; and 5) represent the University of Montana as a leader in local, regional, national, and global waterfowl conservation issues.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in science that focuses on the ecology or conservation of waterfowl
Minimum of five years of experience in academia or related waterfowl conservation professions
Demonstrate a distinguished record of research achievement and grant funding
Demonstrate a record of mentoring excellence with students and/or staff
Ability to communicate effectively with waterfowl conservation stakeholders and the general public
