The above full time EPSRC-funded, fixed term role is available immediately on a fixed term basis for 3 years with a possible extension to 4 years.
The post:
The University is recruiting for a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in Project BlueBird, an exciting £13.75M, 5-year EPSRC Prosperity Partnership between NATS, Turing, Exeter and Cambridge, led by Professor Tim Dodwell (Turing AI Fellow at Turing & Exeter).
You will join a team of six-postdoctoral researchers, who with Research Software Engineers and academics, aims to deliver the world’s first AI system to control a section of airspace in live trials, working with air traffic controllers to help manage the complexities of their role. This system will use digital twinning and machine learning technologies, and will include tools and methods that promote safe and trustworthy use of AI. See ****for more details of Project BlueBird. This post, working with Profs. Richard Everson and Tim Dodwell, will concentrate on optimisation approaches to planning and tactical control of aircraft, addressing the challenges of robust and multi-objective optimisation in a dynamic airspace environment.
We welcome applications from a broad range of background include computer science, mathematics, statistics and engineering; with knowledge of optimisation, reinforcement learning, multiagent systems and high performance computing.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to work well in a team, and demonstrate a strong commitment to open, reproducible science and software development.
