I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
Job Description Summary:
This is a part-time position that will conduct outreach and recruitment/referral of potential study participants for the
HIV
Prevention Trials Network (
HPTN
) 094 protocol for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Clinical Research Site (
CRS
). The
HPTN
094 study examines the use of a mobile health unit to deliver integrated health services for drug treatment and
HIV
prevention and care to people who inject drugs (
PWID
) in Washington, DC. The study will take place out in the community, with enrollment, intervention delivery and study visits taking place on the mobile health unit. The applicant must be willing to work in the field throughout the DC community and must provide own transportation (driving, parking, and/or public transportation) to the site locations.
The Department is seeking someone who can conduct street outreach and recruitment and provide referrals of people who inject drugs and use opioids to participate in the
HPTN
094 study. This outreach recruiter ideally would be a peer, meaning someone who has lived experience of past injection drug use, or a near peer, meaning someone who is very familiar with or who has worked with people who inject drugs. This person will also be already connected to this population in order to have maximum access to the population. S/he will identify the best times during the day and week to conduct outreach in order to maximize the number of people reached and referred to the study, and all study-related activities must be documented. Outreach and recruitment would consist of reaching out to groups of people on the street where the population congregates, passing out fliers, talking about the study and making referrals to the study. Other outreach could include reaching out to networks of the population and organizations that serve this population. The outreach recruiter may also be asked to assist with retention activities to help find persons who are lost to follow-up. Attendance by phone/zoom or in person at weekly team meetings and/or meeting weekly with the supervisor is required. Nearly all of this work in the field will be done in-person with appropriate
COVID
protections and restrictions in place.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED
plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
