Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Disaster Science & Emergency Management
Rowan University offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate academic programs in emergency management and invites applications for a full-time faculty member to join a growing interdisciplinary team beginning in the Fall of 2022 at the rank of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position (rank commensurate with qualifications and experience). The emergency management degree program has approximately 160 undergraduate students and a Master of Science degree in Emergency & Threat Response Management. The combined programs are experiencing growth. Thus, we seek an experienced, energetic, and innovative colleague who is committed to excellence in teaching and service to join our faculty in the Program in Disaster Science & Emergency Management.

The full-time Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position (rank commensurate with qualifications and experience) will teach 4 emergency management (or supporting discipline) classes per semester. Course reduction for program leadership is expected as a part of the successful applicant's service to the program. Courses may be offered online or in-person, depending on departmental and student needs. While the position is formally housed in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, the appointment is in the Program in Disaster Science & Emergency Management. Moreover, the position will also support our program offerings at the Camden and Glassboro Campus locations. Service includes working with a team to help coordinate the undergraduate or graduate program, graduate student thesis supervision, offering seasonal workshops for students, student competitions, and related academic and professional mentoring.

Position Requirements:
A doctoral degree in Emergency Management or Public Administration (excluding Homeland Security) from a regionally accredited university or college (related degrees may be considered on a case-by-case basis);
Evidence of teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
Excellence in teaching with the ability to teach emergency management-specific coursework with a specialization in Research Methods/Statistics and at least one of the following areas: Risk Analysis, Planning, Social Science and Disasters, Disaster Recovery, Critical Infrastructure Protection;
A blend of scholarly practice and experiential education;
Professionally engaged in state, regional, national, or international first responder or continuity of operations organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Has a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or equivalent credential;
Experience in online teaching, learning, and curriculum design;
Experience with co-curricular programming offerings (student organizations, workshops, mentoring programs, community networks, etc.);
Drone/Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) pilot experience;
A minimum of 5 years of sworn/licensed/certified first responder experience (police, fire, emergency medical).
The Program In Disaster Science & Emergency Management at Rowan:
The Program in Disaster Science & Emergency Management is housed in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology which embraces liberal arts learning within a social science framework. The program offers two degrees, Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (BA), and the Emergency & Threat Response Management (MS) together with its undergraduate and graduate certificates in Counterterrorism & Emergency Response Operations (CUGS), Border, Port of Entry & Homeland Security (CUGS), Disaster Public Health & Emergency Response Operations (CUGS), First Responder Executive Leadership (COGS), and Public Health Preparedness & Emergency Medical Management (COGS). These programs equip students with the intellectual basis to continue university-level education, life-long learning, and career advancement. Graduates possess the skills needed to address complex natural, technological, and human-induced hazards and crises in our modern context. The program's faculty pursue active research agendas. Professionally, their specialties range from disaster studies, weapons of mass destruction, disaster planning, continuity planning (COOP), emergency medical management, exercise design, terrorism response, counterterrorism, supply chain logistics, strategic planning, and environmental disasters.

General Information: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer are 10-month positions with the option to teach summer classes for additional compensation. While this is a non-tenure track position, the initial 2-year contract is renewable, with expectations for continuing renewal of two, three, four, and then five years per contract. In addition, the position has a promotion path and includes benefits.
