Position Classification: Full-time, 10-month, faculty, salaried exempt Hours: 7:45 a.m.-4:00 p.m. with additional hours as needed to fulfill after school coaching/activity responsibilities as assigned Reports to: Head of Upper School and US Science Department Chair Reports Position Summary: St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks an Upper School Librarian for our Upper School to begin on or around August 15, 2022. Serving approximately 980 boys in Grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s School is committed to cultivating a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming, and prides itself on bringing out the best in every boy. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and collaborative educator who can help students achieve the School’s academic mission through the various functions, services, and opportunities provided through the Science Department and the Upper School. Principal Responsibilities: Teaching a full academic course load (four classes with two or three preps) Specific course assignments and levels (regular, honors and AP) may be determined on the strengths of the successful candidate and needs within the department; ability to teach at the Honors level and AP level preferred Candidates should be prepared to teach in more than one area of the curriculum Chemistry required. Biology or Physics secondary Advising (six to eight students) and actively participating as a member of the House System Coaching or leading a significant co-curricular activity Offering an X Term cohort (experiential learning program) Handling other duties (study halls, chaperoning dances, etc.) as assigned Participating in the life of the school through committee work and being a regular presence at major school events such as concerts, plays, athletic contests, and other events as a means of supporting the students and the mission of the school Communicating in an articulate and appropriate fashion, as well as in a timely and efficient manner, with parents, students, and colleagues Staying abreast of and implementing best practices for teaching and relating to adolescent boys Communicating and interacting with faculty and staff from across the school in an appropriate and effective professional manner Key Qualifications: Candidates must Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related field Have a minimum of three years teaching experience Possess a thorough knowledge of and passion for teaching the discipline of Chemistry and an openness/experience in employing inquiry based instructional methodologies Show an understanding of the vital role of research and analysis in preparing students for college and life beyond college Demonstrate familiarity, ease, and openness with integrating technology into the classroom Be able to collaborate effectively with members of the department and the Upper School faculty to enhance students’ appreciation and understanding of chemistry and the sciences in general Be able to enhance students’ skills and abilities in creative thinking and problem solving, intellectual curiosity and risk taking, research and analysis, collaboration and teamwork, and ability to apply core knowledge to new and changing situations Commit to best practices in education, as articulated in the School’s Teaching Excellence Document , and a dedication to best practices for boys, as espoused by the St. Christopher’s Center for the Study of Boys Demonstrate a clear commitment to diversity, community, and inclusion in school communities, as expressed in the St. Christopher's Diversity and Inclusion Statement Effective October 22, 2021, School policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
