Job Description:
The Director's function is to provide leadership for the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) and the Project Access program and to ensure programmatic and physical accessibility for students with disabilities. The Director is responsible for strategic planning, budget development, hiring, scheduling, training and evaluating staff.
This position works closely with faculty, staff, and administrators of the college to ensure that students with disabilities are appropriately accommodated in all aspects of their college experience. The Director is responsible for the development of policies and procedures that address the needs and concerns of students with disabilities and ensure campus compliance to all applicable federal laws. The Director also serves as a consultant on all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act issues affecting students. The Director is responsible for assisting in and preparing necessary materials in Office of Civil Rights investigations with respect to disability.
This person directly supervises the Assistant Director, three Disability Support Services Counselors, the Interpreter Coordinator, the Assistive Technology/Accommodated Testing Specialist, the Assistive Technology/Accommodated Testing Assistant, the Associate Director of Project Access, and the Office Associate. The Director also indirectly supervises approximately 20 free-lance sign language interpreters, 10 reader/writer/proctors, three work- study students and Project Access staff which includes 10 part-time teachers, a counselor, eight peer mentors/tutors and an office associate. The Director also supervises any ancillary staff /outside contractors that may be working for DSS as a part of grant projects or agreements with community agencies.
Requirements:
Master's degree in Counseling, Special Education or related field
At least three years college advising, advocacy, and counseling experience
Must have at least one year of supervisory and/or managerial experience required
Knowledge of laws protecting persons with disabilities such as the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504
Experience assessing students' documentation of disability and prescribing appropriate accommodations, preferably on the college level
Ability to establish working relationships with local human services agencies
Knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Access
Familiarity with Colleague Student System and the use of Ellucian Student Planning is highly desirable
Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
May need to work evening and weekend hours as needed and for special events

Hours Per Week: 37.5
Work Schedule: M-F; 8:30-5:00, May need to work evening and weekend hours as needed and for special events
Compensation: $80,552 plus excellent medical & dental insurance, tuition reimbursement and paid leave
