Provost and Senior Vice President
Saint Mary’s College seeks a visionary, creative, and skillful leader to serve as its next Provost and Senior Vice President. Reporting directly to President Katie Conboy, who began her tenure at Saint Mary’s on June 1, 2020, the Provost serves as the chief academic officer and second-in-command at the College. The Provost will partner with the Saint Mary’s community, including the President, senior administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the Board of Trustees to implement and execute the College’s new strategic plan while supporting the faculty in their teaching and research endeavors.
Located in Notre Dame, Indiana, nestled within South Bend, Saint Mary’s is a Catholic, residential, liberal arts college offering undergraduate degrees for women and graduate programs that are open to all. Founded by the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1844, Saint Mary’s is part of a tri-campus community that includes the University of Notre Dame and Holy Cross College—three sibling institutions that share significant programming and offer coordinated academic opportunities.
The Provost will continue a legacy of bold innovation, and will have the opportunity to shape this continually-evolving institution by helping to advance its strategic objectives, identifying and articulating key academic priorities, championing the work of the College’s teacher-scholar faculty, and providing high-level vision and leadership for the College’s many academic departments, centers, and programs. Both faculty and administration seek in their next Provost a strong, visible, and engaged leader who can persuasively articulate the value of the College’s particular approach to liberal arts education across campus as well as throughout the national and international landscape of higher education. Given the strong focus on undergraduate education, the Saint Mary’s Provost must also be committed to supporting the faculty in their work with students both inside and outside the classroom.
The ideal candidate will have substantial administrative experience appropriate to the size and complexity of the Provost’s role as well as a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship, and service that would merit appointment as a full professor at Saint Mary’s College.
