The Food Service Coordinator
is a non-aligned, non-exempt/hourly position that reports to the Executive Director of Teaching in Learning, in conjuction with the
Director of Food Services and
Director of Expanded Learning Opportunities. The Foos Science Coordinator
develops the cooking and garden-based curriculum for the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. by focusing on garden/food-based activities and coursework, working alongside teachers to host classroom workshops, cafeterias and gardens to deliver
educational content (tabling, speaking engagements, classroom activities, garden installations.
This position will also oversee the production gardens at Hunt Middle School(HMS) and Burlington High School(BHS), and lead the summer programming at those gardens. In addition, this position will
assist in hosting District-wide community events, will take part in regional and national Farm to School and food education networks and will work to support District efforts for student participation in Junior Iron Chef competitions.
Assist Food Education & Programs Manager to host district-wide community events.
Assist in summer job-skills training for Fork in the Road staff.
This position will take part in regional and national Farm to School and food education networks.
Deliver educational content (tabling, speaking engagements, classroom activities, garden installations, etc.) for special events.
The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
K-5 Food-Based Classroom Work:
In collaboration with the instructional coaching team, develops and implements weekly cooking cart workshops aligned to grade-level standards.
Coordinates school garden-based programs (seasonal)
Champlain, Flynn, CP Smith
Facilitates school garden committees & parent/teacher outreach
Manages supply needs for all cooking and garden work
School Garden Management:
Oversees workload of summer garden intern
Leads weekly garden shifts for Fork in the Road youth employees
Develops garden plans for Hunt and BHS grow spaces
Manages spring greenhouse seeding and distribution of plants
Coordinates produce usage with BHS Food Science class, Burlington Technical Center(BTC) culinary, Fork in the Road & district kitchens
Supports the planning and oversight of any summer learning program culinary and gardening activities
9-12 Food-Based Classroom Work:
Hosts Burlington High School(BHS) Food Science class in gardens and greenhouse during the growing season
Conducts food workshops with Food Science class over winter months.
Co-designs projects for Expanded Learning Opportunities (Afterschool and Summer)
Develops food and garden curriculum for K-5
Oversees planning and implementation of the Junior Iron Chef program at the middle schools and high school during the school year
Supports the planning and oversight of any summer learning program culinary and gardening activities
In collaboration with the school day, supports after school involvement and access to school gardens
Develops and facilitate trainings for afterschool and summer staff on the food and garden curriculum
The required qualification for this position include:
Education:
Minimum Required: Two years of college coursework.
Preferred: Degree in K-12 education or food science
Experience:
Minimum Required: Three years in food science programming working with youth and community partners. Experience working with school staff preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Working knowledge
Sufficient familiarity with the subject to know basic principles and terminology and to understand and solve simple problems.
General knowledge
Sufficient knowledge of a field to perform most work in normal situations. The work calls for comprehension of standard situations and includes knowledge of most of the significant aspects of the subject.
Thorough knowledge
Advanced knowledge of the subject matter. The work calls for sufficient comprehension of the subject area to solve unusual as well as common work problems, to be able to advise on technical matters and to serve as a resource on the subject for others in the organization.
Comprehensive knowledge
Requires complete mastery and understanding of the subject. This term should be used sparingly and only for unusually exacting or responsible positions required to originate hypotheses, concepts, or approaches.
