Job Summary

The School of Interiors in the College of Design at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. invites applications and nominations for the position of Director with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022. As the Commonwealth of Kentucky's premier CIDA-accredited undergraduate Interior Design program, which was awarded accreditation in 2021, the School of Interiors offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Interiors: Planning, Strategy, Design and a two-year Master of Arts (MA) in Interior Design. The interdisciplinary composition of the faculty, who participate in research, teaching, and practice, enables the School to fulfill the University's Land Grant Mission by delivering exceptional design education. On the threshold of celebrating its 50th year, the School of Interiors has a rich academic tradition of promoting an environment that supports diverse intellectual approaches within a rigorous design curriculum and provocative experiences.

The position of Director of the School of Interiors provides a unique opportunity for a dynamic and collaborative leader to build upon the School's strengths in shaping as well as influencing the future direction of the School through enrollment growth, development of new programs, occupancy of a new adaptive reuse building, and promoting a culture of inclusion and equity. Within this context, the School of Interiors seeks an accomplished and forward-thinking candidate who is passionate about design education and practice, but also thinks broadly about its capacity and application.

The Director, who reports to the Dean of the College of Design, is responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership of the School of Interiors. The Director provides leadership in defining the strategic priorities and vision for the School and enhancing its visibility, brand, and reputation. In this role, the Director is responsible for continuing to advance and strengthen degree programs; fostering excellence in teaching, research, and service
increasing the School's enrollment and financial resources. The Director is responsible for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for working and learning that promotes entrepreneurship, growth, collaboration, and shared governance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversees the operational and fiscal management of the School

Continually evaluates the effectiveness of courses, the program and curriculum

Develops schedules and faculty teaching assignments

Recruits new faculty and makes recommendations to the Dean regarding faculty appointments, promotions and dismissals

Oversees the faculty performance review process; clearly communicating to faculty the specific University and College policies that inform the process

Actively guides faculty members through the tenure/promotion process, supporting their ongoing efforts to advance scholarly and creative activities

Inspires morale and ensures all faculty are offered privileges and responsibilities appropriate to their rank

Oversees the ongoing assessment, development and implementation of the School, College and University Strategic Plans

Participates in the development and implementation of College policies, procedures and guidelines

Establishes and evaluates School policies and procedures

Represents the School and College to external constituencies including alumni, industry professionals, other university units and potential donors

Identifies and pursues external funding opportunities in support of the School and College mission, in cooperation with designated philanthropy staff

Maintains a commitment to teaching and learning and a scholarly agenda, including continued research and publication, or distinguished practice

Teaches one (1) course within the discipline per academic year

Ensures compliance with SACS and CIDA accreditation guidelines

Facilitates the resolution of issues and problems that may arise between faculty, staff and students

Serves on University and College-wide committees

Fosters interdepartmental collaboration and continuously enhances the reputation of the University, College and the School of Interiors in academic and professional circles

Works with the Recruitment Officer to recruit talented undergraduate and graduate students
