Job Description
Title: Orchestra Teacher
Location: Curtis Middle School
Reports to: Principal
Position Summary:
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a qualified Middle School Orchestra Teacher. The Orchestra Teacher works primarily with grades 6-8 but also teaches orchestra to grades 4 and 5, creating a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and play music. The Orchestra Teacher is responsible for delivering a high quality instructional experience of orchestra through creativity, resourcefulness and sound judgement consistent with the curriculum frameworks.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate lessons designed to foster musical development for the following:
6th Grade Middle School Orchestra
7th and 8th Grade Middle School Orchestra
4th and 5th Grade Orchestra
Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students;
Participate in the CES block which is used for student connection classes/activities and/or enrichment and support classes/activities
Maintain grades for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Orchestra students;
Communicate with parents and other colleagues regarding students;
Facilitate 2-3 concerts per year for each orchestra cohort;
Plan and assess curriculum and instruction;
Mentor students’ understanding and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments, when appropriate;
Manage classroom environment including communication with classroom teachers as needed;
Seek the assistance of district specialists as required regarding the learning disabilities of students;
Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement;
Differentiate instructions based on student learning needs;
Collaborate toward school-wide activities and performances (assemblies, musicals, theatre, etc.);
Foster student interest in and understanding of music;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Classification: SEA Unit Position
Schedule: 183 days (1.0 FTE)
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience based on the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Hiring is contingent upon a successful CORI and fingerprinting clearance. All finalists will be required to provide official transcripts.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred, from an accredited college or university, in Music/Music Education or a related field;
A valid Massachusetts Music Teacher License issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
Teaching experience with orchestra;
Strong knowledge of content area, teaching methods and learning styles for music instruction;
Knowledge of a wide body of quality music literature and teaching techniques;
Ability to work with multi-age/multi-ability groups;
Ability to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful school environment;
Belief that every child can learn and the drive to help every child reach his or her potential;
Philosophy of collaborating with educators to enhance best practices and inform instruction. Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
