University of Maryland Medical Center's Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry has developed a trauma informed, population specific model of care that is grounded in evidence-based practice. Known as the ARC model, it focuses on teaching patients skills for emotional regulation and expression, while teaching parents the value of routine, consistency, and positive regard. Based on Blaustein and Kinniburgh's Treating Traumatic Stress in Children and Adolescents (2010), unit leadership worked with the authors to develop practical strategies and language to implement the theoretical framework on the unit.
The Student Nurse, under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, participates in the nursing process in delivering care to patients and their families. Duties and responsibilities include direct care activities required in daily practice on the assigned unit. Fulfillment of the job duties requires the employee to have access to medication storage areas.
