The Office of the Vice President for Research
is a key organizational structure of the University, led by
the Vice President for Research
with accountability for the strategic leadership and development of the multi-disciplinary research portfolio within the Institute.
Duties and Responsibilities
Promot
e
and facilitat
e
cutting-edge research, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in areas related to the strategic goals of the University
Where applicable, develop mutually beneficial connections with institutions of higher education, corporations, government agencies, industry and the community to develop partnerships and collaborative research
Build and provid
e
sufficient support for a community of innovative researchers to enhance research capacity at the university and to increase internal and external research opportunities for faculty
Develop relationships with Program Officers
and t
arget research funding agencies
to
ensur
e
that the
i
nstitut
ion
capitalizes upon funding initiatives from multiple sources
Act as a liaison
with institutional research compliance standards, such as the IRB, IACUC, and Biosafety Committees
Work closely with the Vice President for Research to
orient new faculty
, and to
i
dentif
y
and t
rack key performance measures
Promote
University
’s
research initiatives nationally, internationally, provincially, and locally, and in conjunction with the Vice President for Research act as a liaison with all constituents on matters that relate to its interest in research, innovation, commercialization, technology transfer and entrepreneurship
Requirements
S
uccessful track record of academic leadership and
team building
Successful track record
of research, scholarly, and/or creative achievement.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong Interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel 25% of the year.
Qualifications
PhD with demonstrable evidence of a track record in research and grantsmanship.
