Anticipated English Learner Teacher-Middle School (2021-2022)
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking an EL teacher to support English Learners at the Middle School level for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have a Vermont state license in teaching English Learners (also known as ELL, ESL, TESOL) and will have experience in establishing a safe, welcoming, positive learning environment for English Learners. Experience working with students and families from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds is essential. Familiarity with both literacy and mathematics as well as the Common Core and WIDA standards and assessments are also important assets.

Experience Required:
Experience teaching English Learner students at the middle school level.
Understanding of Cultural Competency (as explained through Essay 1 on SchoolSpring)
Knowledge of curriculum planning using “backward design”, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment.
Knowledge of best practices regarding frameworks of student behavioral support.
Knowledge of and experience with currently accepted/research-based practices in EL instruction
Strong communication skills as evidenced through quality of resume and cover letter
Required Qualifications:
Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Vermont Teaching License in English as a Second Language, or eligible for licensure
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with students from refugee and SLIFE backgrounds at the secondary or elementary level
Experience in a professional/teaching-learning community or similar learning community.
Ongoing educational training.
Experience integrating technology into the learning environment
Knowledge about/experience working with students who have experienced trauma, poverty, and cultural/linguistic as well as physical dislocation
Knowledge of best practices regarding student management
Knowledge or experience with literacy instruction
Knowledge of assessments and use of data to inform instruction
Evidence of strong connection with students and families
Dual licensure in a content area (English, social studies, science, math) or elementary education
Willingness to collaborate and co-teach
SALARY:
As per the Master Agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association.
