DEAN OF THE DIVISION OF CONTINUING EDUCATION
The University of California, Irvine’s Division of Continuing Education (DCE) draws upon the intellectual resources and expertise of UCI
to address compelling educational needs in the region, the state, the nation, and beyond through continuing education programs of the highest quality and relevance in a diverse array of disciplines and subject areas. With a deep commitment to expanding opportunities for learning and educational innovation, the dean leads DCE in serving the critical lifelong learning and skill development needs for more than 25,000 student enrollments annually in 2,000 courses. UCI invites nominations and applications for the key leadership role of Dean of the Division of Continuing Education.
UCI DCE provides lifelong learning opportunities to thousands of students worldwide each year – fulfilling the school’s 60-year curriculum platform to connect degree programs to the world of work and achievement after graduation. DCE offers a broad range of certificate programs, specialized studies, and sequential courses through online, on-campus, and on-site delivery. A leader in the open education movement, DCE offers free Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs)
and content through the UCI Open

Reporting directly to UCI’s Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Division of Continuing Education provides leadership for the strategic direction and operations of DCE in the development and delivery of continuing, professional, and pre-college education in traditional classroom settings at multiple locations, through online and other distance education modalities, and via blended learning. With the goal of expanding the impact of UCI DCE, the dean will oversee and lead academic and strategic planning; educational needs assessment; enhancement of academic program quality and delivery to diverse audiences of non-matriculated UCI students; expansion of campus and community partnerships; equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives; organizational, financial, grant, and contract management; and university engagement activities, nationally and internationally.
With passion for deep and innovative collaboration across UCI, for serving the community at every stage of learning, and for fulfilling and promoting both access and academic rigor within DCE’s mission, the next dean will embrace the following opportunities and challenges: setting a strategic vision for the future; fostering internal collaboration and partnerships; expanding external relationships and community integration; innovating delivery and programmatic approaches; and providing exceptional and inclusive leadership and staff management.
The next dean will be a highly engaged, visible, empathetic, and collaborative leader with a deep understanding of the evolving challenges facing higher education and continuing education. The next dean will show vision, confidence, courage, and conviction in leading DCE and will be energized by the unique possibilities for leadership and innovation afforded through UCI’s outstanding reputation. An advanced degree in any discipline is strongly preferred, as well as experience in innovative education, social engagement, politics, or business leadership, among others.
