Position Description Summary:
The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.'s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the archaeology of the Black Atlantic to begin as early as Fall 2022. The department is seeking to expand its teaching and research in the area of race, and the lived experiences of enslavement, resistance, and freedom amongst Africans and Afro-descendants in the Americas. We are particularly seeking to expand our coverage of North America, West Africa, The Caribbean, or the parts of Central or South America that specifically focus on the sphere of the Black Atlantic, though we are also interested in research focused on African/a archaeology. We are interested in multidisciplinary approaches from both archaeology and Africana Studies (for e.g. geography, computer modeling, sociology, remote sensing, history, bioarchaeology, statistics, literature) as well as questions of growing interest within and beyond archaeology (e.g., the movement of materials and ideas, dialogues between technology and culture; environmental and demographic interactions; or managing heritage). The position will be at the assistant or associate professor ranks. The successful candidate will have a primary appointment in the
GWU
Anthropology Department, within the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities would include undergraduate and graduate students in

and other students at the University.
