The School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Science/Department of Geography and Environmental Science is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Physical Geography, with a preference for candidates with demonstrable research and teaching experience in the use of remote sensing and Earth Observation to understand and quantify environmental processes. Candidates must have a strong background in Physical Geography and be familiar with its core content and methods. We are seeking to appoint a candidate aspiring to research and teaching excellence, who can contribute to our research training programmes, prepare high-quality grant applications, and undertake outreach activities.

Two hundred academics, and hundreds of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students come together within our Environment theme to explore, understand, and address the challenges of environmental changes, both natural and those shaped by humans. The successful applicant will become part of the University’s Environmental Science Research Division which is one of the four divisions within the Environment theme.
You will be expected to:
Conduct research in the broad area of Physical Geography, with emphasis on the application of remote sensing and Earth Observation to understand and quantify environmental processes.
Teach a range of modules in Physical Geography to undergraduate students from part one to part three, including specialist modules on remote sensing and Earth Observation.
Take on administrative duties and academic citizenship activities appropriate to career stage and experience.
You will have:
A PhD or equivalent in Physical Geography or a related subject.
A broad knowledge of Physical Geography and familiarity with its core concepts and methods.
The ability to convene modules and deliver effective teaching in Physical Geography at different levels with different class sizes.
A track record of research attainment and related publications.
Experience of undergraduate teaching in Physical Geography or related subject.
